During the Learning Studios facilitator training in Azraq, Jordan, participants did an activity in which they discussed the stages of the design thinking process and determined in what order they would go through each stage. The participants were given cards with each stage of the design process written on them, and in groups, discussed which order to pursue the steps. Each group’s explanation and ordering were slightly different–whereas one team thought they should understand what is causing a problem before empathizing with those affected, another team spoke of empathizing with the people affected before investigating the root of the problem.
This activity helped spark group discussion about using the design thinking process to engage with everyday problems, and fed into the subsequent activity, the Paper Design Challenge.
