Design for All: How might we help a peer express his needs?

February 23, 2018 | By

In response to the Learning Studios Design for All challenge, students at All Saints High School in Kanata, ON, Canada created an assistive device to make it easier for an autistic peer to express his needs. The device is a box, which they labeled with cards indicating the student’s needs and connected to a laptop. The student expresses his needs by pressing the card that represents his need in the moment. This triggers a unique sound, which is generated from the attached laptop.
