MY World 360°

Recognizing the experiential storytelling potential of immersive technologies, the UN SDG Action Campaign, Digital Promise, and Oculus invite emerging creators worldwide to join the global MY World 360° campaign to inspire positive action toward the Sustainable Development Goals. From reducing inequalities, to promoting good health and well-being, to ensuring access to affordable and clean energy, these 17 Global Goals are a universal call to action to create a better world.

MY World 360° invites emerging creators (no age restrictions) everywhere to use Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), 360° and other emerging forms of interactive storytelling and design to show the multi-dimensionality of their local communities and creative visions for a better world. Youth and first time creators are strongly encouraged to apply!

The world of immersive storytelling and design is wide open for experimentation and innovation. Submissions may include (but are not limited to):

  • 360° video that immerses viewers in a new experience, point of view, or place
  • AR representing impacts of a certain phenomenon on the built or natural world
  • VR experiences that allow people to interact with animated surroundings
  • Mixed media projects that combine 360° photos, audio, and text annotation
  • Volumetric VR using real people and places
  • Photogrammetry and 3D modeling that shares natural or cultural artifacts
  • Three-dimensional video games and simulations
  • And more!

Educators and adults working with students under age 18 are welcome to submit their students’ original work. Creators 18 years of age and older are welcome to submit their original work directly. Submissions can be in any language.

Next submission deadline: Early August 2020 (stay tuned for details) for consideration to be screened alongside UN events throughout the year, including the 2020 Summer Paralympics in August 2020 and UN General Assembly in New York City, USA in September 2020.

Since 2018, MY World 360° creators have produced hundreds of media projects that use immersive storytelling and design to inspire action on the Goals. From dramatic enactments of gender discrimination to public service announcement about food deserts and access to healthy food,

MY World 360° includes a Program Guide and FAQ to help participants learn about the SDGs, and to develop the skills needed to capture, edit, and share immersive media to represent their perspectives and their communities in an immersive and compelling way.

About the United Nations SDG Action Campaign

The United Nations SDG Action Campaign empowers and inspires people across the world to take action in supporting their governments, building multi-stakeholder partnerships and leveraging cutting-edge communication technologies to bridge the gap and ensure a transparent dialogue between world leaders and their constituencies, especially the most marginalized and vulnerable populations. From 2013 to 2015, the MY World 2015 project ensured that ten million people’s development priorities were included in the deliberation process for the SDGs, an effort which will continue to include people through 2030. Since 2015, the Campaign has coordinated the United Nations Virtual Reality Project, using the power of immersive storytelling to inspire viewers towards increased empathy, action and positive social change.
