MY World 360° invites young people worldwide to develop digital skills and create 360° media as a way to share their perspectives and advance positive action toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
With the help of MY World, anyone can take action to hold governments and institutions accountable. Through MY World 360° we aim to tell the personal stories of those who are most affected by the SDGs and those who are taking action to make sure we achieve them. In this way we will strengthen the dialogue between government and citizens and inform government action, while engaging the general public in issues of immediate concern to them.
A partnership between the United Nations SDG Action Campaign, Digital Promise Global, and Oculus, MY World 360° ultimately aims to increase participation in a new expressive medium by young people and marginalized groups; promote awareness and understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); and engage young people in powerful learning experiences that help them build new digital skills for a purpose.
By participating, young people have an opportunity to learn creative and technical skills, creatively communicate their ideas, and take part in the transformations they want to see in their communities and at a global scale, making an impact on issues they care about.

The SDGs, also known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to tackle the world’s most urgent and important challenges by the year 2030. Millions of people — governments, organizations, and individuals, including children and youth — were involved in crafting the agenda for the Sustainable Development Goals, which were adopted on 25 September 2015 by world leaders at the United Nations.
The seventeen Sustainable Development Goals are bold and ambitious and will require that everyone, including young people, contribute to making them a reality. They are a new universal language and framework that encourage collaborative action by all sectors, including governments, private sector, civil society, and individuals around the globe.
These are not just the United Nations’ goals – they are everyone’s! They apply equally to all countries and especially focus on not leaving anyone behind. They are integrated and interconnected, and all goals have an effect on each other.
360° media is a format that captures in every direction at once — up, down, and all around. Viewers are placed in the center of the action, and can choose from what angle they want to see and experience what’s happening around them. It’s an incredible, immersive experience, as if you were dropped into someone else’s shoes to see their perspective, which increases understanding and empathy in a way other mediums can’t.
From a production perspective, 360° brings many new challenges and opportunities — for example, the concept of “behind the camera” no longer exists! Photos and videos can be viewed on the web, mobile devices or a headset where the user can “look around” the scene by moving their head around. 360° media is an ideal format for people to share their stories and make their voices be heard and understood on what issues are important to them.
360° media offers the opportunity to tell stories in a more compelling way, to understand and interact with the protagonists in a much deeper way, and to experience their stories in a more immersive and impactful way.
This medium allows people to make a difference, to give others a deeper understanding of their world, and hopefully to inspire change that improves people’s lives and creates the world we all want.
Through MY World 360° we want to empower young people to be part of the conversation and take action. We want to share the stories of the people behind and at the front of the SDGs, including those whose lives are most affected by the success of this Global Plan and those who are taking action to make this success a reality. We want to engage everyone to be part of this process.
MY World is a global citizen survey to bring people’s voices into official debates about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The objective of the MY World survey is to hold governments and institutions accountable and make sure every person has their say on SDG achievement. MY World asks citizens whether they are aware of the SDGs, it allows citizens to focus on 6 of the 17 goals that are of most immediate concern to them and to evaluate if the situation of these has got better, stayed the same or got worse over the past months.
MY World is a tool to make people’s voices heard and show how these goals are relevant to their lives, bringing attention to what needs to be changed, transformed, achieved in people’s perception.
Through storytelling and innovative communication programs, we are capturing the sentiment and personal views of individuals around the world, especially focusing on the most vulnerable, and shedding a light on people’s realities and stories of action that can challenge and create a positive impact.
MY World is led by the United Nations SDG Action Campaign and shared by global, national and local partners around the world. The objective of the MY World 2030 initiative is to empower people to share their voices and to inform governments and the UN on perceptions of priorities and progress on SDGs from now until 2030.
The results and stories are used to support governments to make decisions informed by this collective voice and to maintain ongoing dialogue with the public regarding progress. The series are shared in local and global digital campaign, and the content is exhibited across the world.
From now until 2030, we want as many people in as many countries as possible to be involved in MY World. We want to encourage people to share how the SDGs are linked to their lives and whether they feel that progress has been made in achieving them. Together with our partners, we aim to mobilise millions of citizens, institutions and organisations across the globe to raise their voices. This is history in the making!

These are big questions! Start by exploring the Sustainable Development Goals and how they are relevant to you and your community. Talk to people in your community and check out the MY World survey tool to help identify the story you want to tell. Next, choose the tools you want to use to capture your story and start experimenting with immersive storytelling. Download a free 360° photo tool like the Google Street View app onto your smartphone to capture 360º images. Now that you have explored the Sustainable Development Goals and discussed with your community what issues are most important, it’s time to find the story you want to tell and how to tell it. You are encouraged to amplify the voices of those whose are mostly unheard and put the spotlight on the issues most relevant to your community by using 360° media.
Consider the following questions as you develop the story you want to tell:

Once you have an idea of the issue you want to work on, it’s time to learn the skills and knowledge you need to be able to represent it using 360° media. At this stage, you might be asking yourself questions such as:

We would love to feature your work! We encourage you to submit your media by June 5th to be considered for showcase opportunities in July, and August 15th to be considered for showcase opportunities in September.
Once you have completed the checklist above, use this Submission Form to share your MY World 360° media with us. Educators working with students under 18 are invited to submit student work, or if you are 18-24 and have created 360° media related to the SDGs, you are welcome to submit it directly. The form asks for a statement from the artist about the media submitted. (Note that an educator or adult must submit media on behalf of participants under 18 years of age.)
